Ahoy, India Engineering Center (IEC)
Today was my first day at Sun Microsystems' India Engineering Center (IEC). My first day at my first-ever job.
Co-incidentally, David Axmark and Brian Aker of MySQL had dropped in for a talk here. So, getting to hear them speak was a great thing first up in the morning.
Then, they had a informal session, chit-chat with the databases team (of which I am the newest member :-)). Pizzas, Pepsi were there as well.
The rest of the day, I was meeting up with my team members, also met Rohan there.
A great first day!

Defragmenting Linux filesystems
If you use Linux, one thing that really might have not yet considered is defragmenting your filesystems- something which you were quite often familiar, in case you have switched over from M$ Wind0ze.
Polish Linux group has got a nice article on Defragmentation of Linux filesystems
A new life beckons
After a fenzy few days of shopping, meeting with friends, bidding wet adieus, I reached Bangalore from Kolkata via a SpiceJet flight on 23rd May. This is going to be my home for some (a long) time to come. Thankfully, it landed at the older, now shut-down HAL airport. My first-ever flight went off smoothly. It was breathtaking to see the objects on the ground turning into nothing but their micro counter-parts. WOW!
The weather is pleasant- though very dry- my lips are getting chapped :-(
Next day, I, alongwith my friend (from back home) visited the Lalbagh botanical gardens. It is a nice place especially if you have had a frenzy few days.
I am loving the city- the roads, the weather, the life.
Tomorrow (May 26th, 2008) , I join at Sun Microsystems, Inc. which is just a 5-7 min away from the place where I am staying. Wish me luck! Thank you all my well-wishers who made it happen :-)
See you!

Away from blogging..
The past few days have been particularly busy with final graduation exams and project presentations. Tomorrow is my last working day in college. 4-years is over. Time to move on..
I am also relocating to Bangalore around the end of this month for my first job.
So, as you must have noticed, blogging has taken a back-seat. I am doing less amount of tinkering around, even less reading. I feel like a fish out of water. But, yes- I am getting much needed break from the work- a mental relaxation of sorts!
Sun xVM VirtualBox 1.6
In the meantime though, I built Sun xVM VirtualBox 1.6 OSE on Ubuntu 8.04 Beta- I shall be out with the post sometime soon. Yet, to play with it though. I am particularly interested in checking out the updated Solaris guest support.
